Mesa Arch - Three Sisters
After waking to yet another very early morning alarm, Kelsey and I packed up camp and headed out to the trailhead.
Mesa Arch has become quite a popular location when it comes to sunrise views in Canyonlands. When I last visted this sight nearly many years ago, on a chilling mid October morning, I was the only one there to witness the breathtaking views of the morning light illiminating the arch. This morning was different.
Ariving at the arch shortly after 4am, I found myself approaching half a dozen other photographers already in position catching the pre-sunrise sight and another half a dozen spectators viewing from afar. By sunrise, nearly three dozen people had surounded the arch. It. Was. Crowded.
I found it near impossible to get the shot that I had planned on when scouting it out the day before. In wake of the croud, I opted for a closer vantage point.
After much waiting, I was able to capture a different view I had hoped for just as the sunlight began to break through the arch.
